Project based learning

At my school Hornby High School, we have been asked "how we can have a positive impact on our community" My PBL group is called 'juanessaelaordan' and it includes Jessania Juanita Jordan and Me Michaela. The topic we have chosen is senior citizenship and so far some helpful website o help us out have been, stuff, Woodcote retirement village and we have yet to check out stay well pharmacy.
We hope that these websites will help us with the  issue that we have chosen which is helping out and keep company the elderly citizens  during the Christmas holidays and help them out by cooking meals for them to make life  easier to the ones who are poorly. And struggle to do things themselves. we have acknowledged that fact that  the retirement village probably does this themselves but hopefully, we  could do this for the week or two to take a load of them. Plus it's just for a school project.

The first phot of action ~ we called up Woodcote retirement village and organized to meet up with them face to face tomorrow the 21 / 11/ 17 at 10.00 to talk about what we hope to do. Once the meeting had finished we will be able to see if we can carry on with our plan or not.

Second photo of action ~ the next day on Thursday we signed out of school at 9.20 and started walking down to the retirement home for our ten o'clock meeting.

We meet up with Liz Hampton and talked to her about what we wanted to do and she agreed to our idea, though it was really good. So we were able to go in a meet some of the elderly in the retirement home and found out some useful information from them.

Yesterday me and jessania went to my house to bake the elderly at the retirement village some muffins we made chocolate chip ones and special low sugar ones for the elderly with diabeties. we  spent the two periods of pbl baking them came back to school at lunch.
Today Jessania Juanita Jordanlee And i left school period one and walked t the retirement village and gave the villagers our baking, luckily they enjoyed it.

Old Buildings Should Be Preserved For Future Generations To Enjoy

I think that this would be a  great idea, to save a lot of money that could and needs to be spent on more important things, and also keep our country’s or any country for that matter, history’s alive.

I think it would be wrong to demolish and ruin a work of art that could potentially become a tourist attraction. This would be great for that particular country making more money by keeping the building, other than going off and spending all this cash on a new architecture.

Some of the new styles of buildings and houses are terrible and shouldn't be made, some of them are really spectacular, but just don’t seem as appealing or have as much character as a more older style building.

Police who kill civilians should be imprisoned or prosecuted.

Can we trust that the police are really there for us? They say Equality is important but they're not really showing it. We need to start prosecuting or pressing charges against police officers who, show unnecessary violence and racism, to help make our country safer, and to give everyone including blacks the equality they deserve to help build trust in our world again.

There have been numerous times were innocent black women and men have been shot and killed in the streets of America, and police officers have walked away without charges, over 100 deaths a year are caused by police officers who claim they are only using self-defense to protect themselves.

Being a police officer isn’t an easy job, it’s probably very difficult and time-consuming, but the number of deaths caused by them is ridiculous. They claim they are only using self-defense to protect themselves and others around them, but when was shooting at someone who was unarmed and oblivious to the happening around them fair? The US Department of Justice has chosen not to charge too white police officers who killed a black man called Alton Sterling in Louisiana last year by shooting at him outside the Triple S Food Mart when he was unarmed. There was apparently "insufficient evidence," said the new White House administration and a new head of the Justice Department, Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Even though there was CCTV footage, and witnesses who saw this go down. Mobile video footage appeared to show two officers wrestling a man in a red shirt to the floor. Mr. Sterling, a father of five, tragically died at the scene.

According to killed by police.net, 125 people have died so far this year.

As mentioned before there are way too many deaths caused by police officers claiming there using self-defense. Statistics have shown that 13,286 people were killed in America by firearms in 2015, and more than 100 of them were because of police officers playing with their guns.

Families and friends of those who have been shot dead on the streets have taken to court and to the streets fighting for their rights to prosecute or imprison officers that are in the wrong,

The Tragic deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, and Freddie Gray proof of the long-term problems with police racism towards blacks and excessive violence.

According to BBC News, There have been four skilled witnesses that have talked to the BBC World Service Inquiry programme, One of them the head of President Obama's task force on police reform, Charles Ramsey saying, "I'm 24 years old, I'm a black man, It's incredibly depressing to see people just like me who have been killed".

I personally think that police are starting to see black men and women as punching bags just sitting all over town, and reckon that excessive violence needs to be stopped, Because it isn’t fair to let them suffer when half of them killed, haven't done anything wrong at all.

Police officers are getting slammed with complaints and getting blamed. www.nbcphiladelphia.com states that there was a massive protest involving about a dozen people, outside a Philadelphia police officers home, over a man shooting. Although it may be hard to believe, not all of them see a black person as the opportunity to go let off some steam.

Some local forces have taken to the streets to actually try and show that they are willing to stand by them in protest that black lives do matter and police that show unacceptable behavior towards them need to be punished.

I think police in the wrong need to be punished for their harmful actions. Because I think it would help a lot having fewer deaths and angry protests, having and safer community to raise and grow up in and to also not have to worry about being shot.

I think the world definitely including America needs a lot less talk and more action in this situation.

Persuasive Writing

Dangerous sports should be banned

I disagree with this statement, mainly because dangerous sports are usually only dangerous when the player plays dangerously or doesn’t follow the rules.

Also, because you wouldn’t really get an adrenaline rush from playing other sports such as netball all the time some people may prefer it that way, but I’m certain others won’t.

I understand that there will probably be more accidents yet to come as an outcome of not banning these”dangerous sports” but isn't that a condition that you read when you signing up for the game in the first place?

Also, some people make these sports a career, that may have been the one thing they were really passionate about and then banning it is leaving them with nothing to do, no way of making money.

It is also less entertainment for people, you wouldn't be able to go online and book tickets to the next nitro circus, and I'm sure there would be a lot of complaints from fellow fans and adrenaline junkies.

I have Practised my chosen apparatus which are floor, beam, and parallel bars for about 5 min each and then got assessed on floor and parallel bar both merit but not the other one as i am not as confident and sure i am ready on the beam, so hopefully next lesson i will finish up and get assessed then

Woodcut Outcome

I  have finished sketching up my final woodcut design, i decided to go with  a design that had a message behind it. Its my selfie of course but it has a relatable background. This girl is always living up to her parents expectations and only trying here best and is very cultual, but one day she gets tired of this, wants a change, so she unzips from her true self and acts out trying to fit into the crowd and when it comes time to zip back up, she doesn't know if she want's to

Feet, Don’t Fail Me Now

My Mother’s words floated around in my head, “Come on guys you can do this, just breathe,” my dance partner and I were heading to the waiting room, this was my first national dance competition and i was challenging myself to get into the finals, I was absolutely terrified. I was standing among a sea of people all here for the same thing, to compete and be the best number one Rock n Roll dancer in all of New Zealand. It had seemed like such a big deal for me yesterday at our last minute training, to go out there and give my all, but now it was different. A strange feeling flowed through my body giving me goosebumps and a sudden sweating out break, I was now  lined up with all the other contestants out in the waiting room; it frightened me that this was it. Getting my competition number pinned to the back of my floral dress made me realise that this was no time for daydreaming, I needed to focus, to shut out all anxieties, and prepare for a wild fight for first place.

I heard the Raging cheers of families and other supporters, plus the random mega phone shoutings from people in the distance, Breathing deeply I looked over to my right, out the massive bay window and imagined flying away, thinking to myself, what would it be like to just leave and escape all of this?, It was getting really stuffy back here, it was a warm night in Whanganui and it didn’t help being cramped into a gym hall. The crackling of the microphone interrupted my daze, the mc’s footsteps seemed to thud up the wooden stairs echoing around the room, the audience quietened down waiting for what was to be said.

”can the first round of Junior division contestants make their way to the floor”, he said deeply allowing all to be heard.

“this was it, i said to myself, time to prove them wrong, I am a good dancer”. I proudly walked out arm linked with my partner Israel's, after all I was representing Christchurch. We took our place centre floor and prepared ourselves, As soon As Cliff Richards Summer holiday began playing, we started our routine, and all my worries seemed to slowly drift away.

All seemed to be going well for me, I felt like i was a queen and all others were peasants, nothings, I felt as if they were not even there. But slowly hidden far away, deep inside a sudden feeling crept up on me as we prepared ourselves for one particular lift that scared the heck out of me. I felt my legs starting to shake, my breath became thicker, hotter and I started to get a little light headed, by now the adrenaline had definitely kicked in, I was exhausted, drained, and desperately needed water. Butterflies flowed through my stomach, gushing around through my body, trying to ruin my tranquillity. I tried Not to slow down, to keep up pace, to focus. Israel could notice something was up, “you okay” he whispered, trying not to make it to obvious for the judges, “yeah i’m fine, let’s finish this”. I’m not quite sure what happened next but everything seemed to go blurry and sort of freeze in time. I didn’t jump, it seemed like more of a skip, so I wasn’t able to be caught in time and I fell to the floor with a thud that echoed for miles. I sat there for what seemed like forever, “get up Michaela!, get up carry on!” Bellowed a fellow Christchurch competitor from the sidelines.

Realising that i have been down for about 5 seconds now, I quickly get up and keep dancing, trying to forget about what happened. I put on a fake smile and kept up to Israel for  and throughout the rest of the dance.

We finished our routine off with a bang, and stood there like wild dogs panting after a run, i looked over at Israel and beads of sweat had appeared on his forehead. I looked around me and saw the same tired expression on everyone else's face, I also noticed that I had lost one of my shoes some part of my routine too. I felt tears stinging my eyes, tears of exhaustion, we walked over and congratulated the other competitors for a job well done. After we were allowed to leave the floor, I ran up to my mother and collapsed in her arms. I felt like I hadn’t done the best that i could of done and I was really upset with myself. Israel and i got congratulated by supporters and families, then we all sat in dead silence awaiting the judges final decisions.

They spent for what felt like forever announcing each  and every division, I wasn't paying attention, that was till I heard my name over the speakers, We finished in second place and took home silver, which was a massive achievement because we had challenged ourselves to just try and make it into the finals. There was an eruption of cheering and excited screams as we stepped up onto the podium, we punched our fists into the air and i thought to myself, this memory is gonna stay with me forever.

Ocean Acidification 2017

So far what i have learnt about ocean acidifiction

Ocean Acidification (coral reef) Experiment!

• Salt

• Marble stone
• A lot of water
• Egg shell
• Chicken bones or some type of smallish bones

What has happened so far

We have added marble chips to two different beakers

Triangular Beaker

• we put in  two tablespoons of salt

• 17 pounds of marble chips
• five drops of sulfuric acid

Normal Beaker

• We put in two tablespoons of salt
• 17 pounds of marble chips
• And five drops or hydrogen something acid we have done a couple of experiments this one is have recorded the results for

• And we are going to see what difference the acids make on the marbles

We are going to let this sit and see what different types of acids have effects on the marble chips

Results:

Got some marble chips and soaked them in different types of liquids. Water, hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid and  and put a few teaspoons of salt in each beaker.  We are testing how strong they are after being soaked for over 3 days. We found that the marble chips soaked in water was the strongest, then next to it was the marble chips soaked in hydrochloric acid and the weakest was the sulphuric acid. This shows that  when given the chance to survive, in a clean environment that Any living organism with a marble stone like outer shell, they have more of a chance to grow strong and bigger

Unlike when being placed in an chemical environment and the shell to be slowly disintegrating into a crushed crystal like substance

Social Studies Career Essay

Paragraph 1 To Be or to become a assistant director there are not a lot of pre requisites.	To enter into the career of being an assistant director there prefer you to take drama and or music at school to develop social skills since you will be working in the music and acting atmasphere	An example of when you would you these qualities would b if for some reason the director needed you to demonstrate something without taking drama the outcome of this would probably be embarrassing and you would not know what to do or how to do it properly	These are the specific requirements needed to be an assistant director
Paragraph 2 Skills and qualities that are most needed in this job are told through this paragraph	There is no particular  skills and knowledge required but drama is a good start ,personal qualities include having good social skills and being able to work a busy timetable under pressure.	Because for obvious reason if you not able to work under a busy timetable and you had horrendous organising skills then you should be questioning why you're evan working this job and probably need to rethink your future career.	The recent sentences showed what skills and qualities are needed for this career
Paragraph 3 The day in the life of an assistant director provides a lot of variety for tasks that need to be completed in a certain timeframe. This will be explained and discussed in the following paragraph.	Main tasks include reporting information, looking after the producer getting them what they want when they need it, general messenger, and can be put in charge of helping out on a certain scenes.	An example of this is doing a lot of editing work, paper work with your colleagues to ensure productions move ahead smoothly	This shows you what you need to know exactly about the day in the life of an assistant director

Planning Johnny Innocent Young Open minded Up for a challenge Connections with ponyboy etc Introduction : johnny was an important character in the book ‘the outsiders’ and his importance escalated throughout.
SEXXXY 1 Johnny and his loyal connections with ponyboy	We see when ponyboy and johnny are out for a casual stroll at night and they get jumped by some of the socs( bob and his friends)that johnny is brave and willing to help out ponyboy, we read how johnny and ponyboy try to help each other but johnny ends up taking a beating for both of them which shows he is mindful of ponyboy’s feelings.	This shows johnny's caring and love towards ponyboy but not only him but all the other greasers, he could of ran of and left pony but instead stayed and helped fight even though they both knew that they were outnumbered and probably going to get injured.	The purpose of this segment being put into the book was to show and help the audience understand that all gangs are different and they aren't all tough and guts they do care for eachother and are willing to fight it out till the end.	This remind me of the scene from the move the power of one where p.k stands up for what he believes in and Duma helps him along the way evan if that mean they end up getting beaten up.
SEXXXY 2 Johnny and ponyboy stabbing bob in the lot was a game changer for johnny's character and him as a person almost a set back from fear.	We see that johnny is getting set back from his confidence and truthfulness when johnny and ponyboy run away after stabbing bob in the lot this shows us that in this point of the book johnny is scared and feels like he is the only one who can protect himself	This makes us understand how hard it must be for johnny to be with no supportive loving parent wanting to help him through his life journey, with him being left feeling unloved and turning to the gang whom make him feel important and wanted, only to end up being hated by half of the people at school and the community.	This was done to make the audience feel for johnny on another level and maybe in some cases relate to what he is going through with his parents and friends.	This can be juxtaposed to willy out of the story ‘day trip’ when he knows there are people out there who are not willing to help him and get to know him they just judge him on who he hangs with or which gang he is from.
SEXXXY 3 johnny‘s fearlessness when he saves the children from the fire in the burning church is a turning point for his character.	This is demonstrated when after johnny and ponyboy have escaped to another town (windrixville) with the help of dally. A fire breaks out in the church they they had been staying in whilst they were out getting supplies and food and load of school students and their teachers were at the church and most of them got out in time unfortunately some were still trapped inside so johnny made the brave choice to go in a save them.	This proves that johnny is at a point where he wants to turn his life around, because he could've just left the children inside but actually made the decision to go in and save them even if that did mean he would end up in hospital from bad injuries himself	the purpose of this was to show the audience and to prove to ponyboy the other greasers and johnny himself that to be a greasers meant way more than just a gang it is a family and that meant sticking up for eachother no matter what evan in a life or death situations	This remind me of the scene from the titanic where rose is trying to jack from drowning and evan thought they both know that he will die and i'll end up drowning they still do whatever they can to help and protect each other
SEXXXY 4 Johnny in the hospital when he was post recovering from his injuries was a major change in his character for the better.	We know of this because when he is in hospital he is telling each one of the members from the greasers to just get along and solve their problems and grow up and forgive and forget because as johnny would know life it too short for holding unnecessary grudges.	This shows us that Johnny is now realised that all along he had a family there waiting and wanting to help him even if they weren't actually related that didn't matter and he was accepting the fact that he had made wrong choices in the past but all he could do was to say sorry and move by proving this he said to Ponyboy ‘stay gold Ponyboy’, the only person that could not handle this sudden change and almost death of johnny was dally and he ended up getting himself shot because he couldn't cope without Johnny	The director's purpose of this was to show us and the audience that Johnny would and was originally a good kid he just needed time topologize and move on it also proves that people did want him to be around proving this point when dally got himself shot it was because he loved and cared for Johnny, and was sad that he had died	This aspect of love and compassion can be compared to the ending scene of the addams family were even thought people in that family had made bad mistakes and wrong choices at the end of the day they still loved each other the same and would still be there for each other through thick and thin.

Conclusion: Johnny proved himself to be courageous and humble and loyal throughout this book he just needed the right reason to be, at the right time.

I choose these thumbnail pictures because i felt like they were the most moving and were the easiest to understand the most, i used them by zooming up on a certain area and cutting it out onto a piece of wood I used three of my chosen thumbnails to cut onto wood, these were all pictures relating to death and sadness, There was a lot of sad poems and writing expressing how they felt and what they were going through, so they expressed it by carving.

My favourite expressionist artist is Heinz Tetzner because his work is the best i have seen so far that i fell like i can understand on a more emotional leval

Comparing Task

I have chosen the song scene Grease lightning, I chose this because i really like the catchy lyrics and the way it is set up.
In my opinion i fell like the original movie was better than the live show mainly because i feel like john travolta did a way better job at playing Danny, plus the original dance choreography had me more interested than the arrangement in grease live.
Plus if you compare the two set up keeping in md grease live was live and would of been harder to make look like a car garage but i still felt like the original grease just had like a good classic film feel
